DAVIDSTOW Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum have recently had additional information added to the archives thanks to a recent visitor.

Len Hare, a representative from HM Ships Glorious, Ardent and Acasta Association GLARAC recently presented the museum with pictures and documents on behalf of the association having seen the small exhibition about HMS Glorious on a trip to the museum.

When sailing through the Norwegian Sea on the nights of June 7/8 1940 the ships were intercepted by the German battlecruisers Scharnhost and Gneisenau and within two hours HMS Glorious was lost to enemy action along with her two destroyer escorts Ardent and Acasta.

In total 1,531 officers and men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Fleet Air Arm and Royal Air Force lost their lives.

Each year a memorial service is held at HMS Drake, Devonport attended by the families of those who served on the three ships.

Any family members wishing to attend can do so by contacting GLARAC membership secretary Vincent Marcroft 6547638 vinny847022@hotmail.com
