LOCAl international athletes Mark Lewarne (Redruth) and Nathan Jolly (Camborne) competed in the UK Aquathlon champs on Saturday in Wales, and came away with a bronze medal each.

Mark won bronze in the 20-24 age group and nathan achieved bronze in the 25-29 age group.

This confirms HIS selection for the Great Britain Team ahead of the World Aquathlon Championships on the Gold Coast Australia in September.

Nathan has decided to concentrate on representing Great Britain at the World Ironman Championships over in Florida in November, having won his age group at the UK ironman Championships in June.

Mark will now be concentrating on training during August with a few surf lifesaving events thrown in to keep him sharp and race fit.

He said: ''I will now be working heavily on my swimming during august, hopefully I can get placed well off the first 2.5k run in Australia and go into the swim in a decent position.

"The surflifesaving events provide an opportunity to gain valuable race experience which is better than any training session as it really keeps you on your toes.

"The World Championships in Australia comprise of a 2.5k run - 1km Swim - 2.5k run. So ideally you need a good position off that first 2.5k and try to draft off some of the 'world class' swimmers. There will be some quick guys over there, however I am confident of doing well over there if swim training during August works out well."

Nathan has opted for the longer distance of the ironman so his focus is geared towards 'distance training' as opposed to shorter sprint based training.

heNathan has been working very hard over the summer to gain mileage in the legs ahead of the longer distances.
