PUPILS at Launceston College learned how to put some fizz into their business skills recently.

The students became lemonade tycoons during National Enterprise Week.

They undertook a computer-based enterprise game which simulated the business activities of a stall trading lemonade.

By changing the variables of their business – such as their marketing expenditure, recipe design and location – they saw how it was possible to achieve maximum profit.

The Lemonade Tycoon initiative took place at lunchtime throughout the week to promote the importance of enterprise to young people.

Other activities included website launches to local businesses, marketing and sales training for the year 12 Young Enterprise group and an activity session for year 10s from RISE, which supports the development of sustainable social enterprises in the South West.

Trevor Brittain, head of business, said: "Enterprise Week is a great opportunity for our students to develop their enterprise capability.

"From simple graphic-based simulations such as Lemonade Tycoon, to events like working with local businesses to help aid their online strategies, the activities at the college during the week really brought out the enterprise in our students."

National Enterprise Week ran from Monday, November 17, to Sunday, November 23.
