Great catch as pupils go fishing on estuary

PADSTOW School pupils had a great catch this week when they went fishing on the Camel Estuary. The trips were arranged for the year six pupils by the town's PCSO Alan Smith.

The children, equipped with life jackets and fishing tackle, went out on the Black Tor Ferry and despite a few children feeling a little seasick they came back with 15 mackerel.

Pupil Georgia said: "It was so cool, we caught loads of fish. When we got back I even tasted a bit. I don't like fish, but it was actually nice."

Head teacher Phil Banks, who also went fishing, said: "We are very grateful to PCSO Smith for organising the event, the ferry for taking us out into the estuary, Stein's and The Chough for buying the life jackets and Rigmarine for providing and fitting them.

"It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to get involved with the local community."

PCSO Smith added: "We all had a fantastic time. Thanks also to our police funding for the fishing tackle which was supplied at a special rate by Padstow Angling Centre. Thanks also to Capt Rob Atkinson, harbour master, for allowing us the use of the ferry and, last but not least, thanks to Mike and Paul for being such great drivers."
