Some students travelled to China and visits were hosted for guests from Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Italy and our French twin town, Concarneau.
It was with a twinge of sadness that the last meeting of a three-year Comenius project was held. The European-funded venture focused on staff development and has engendered many changes for Mount's Bay, including a new senior management structure.
It also led to the very successful three-period day, observed originally in Denmark, and the introduction of new sports from the Czech Republic. There were also developments in communicating in the classroom brought to us by our German colleagues.
Although this particular project has ended, three new annual events have come out of it. Eight pupils from the German Special Needs School are currently spending a week at Mount's Bay with year 11 students who completed work experience in their classes last autumn. The humanities department will be taking students to Denmark on an exchange with particular interest in the peat bog bodies found near Aarhus. We will also be hosting our Czech partners again next year. A Czech skiing trip with our partner school is being organised. We are also very lucky to be receiving a Czech language assistant, Pavel Bravenec, next year. Pavel will be helping us learn some Czech in time for the visits.
