In my opinion: Fox and stag hunting is about cruelty - not pest control
Many others besides farmers read the WMN, town and country. Not all country born and bred are bloodthirsty killers of innocent creatures! You concentrate on glorifying farmers like they're God's gift! At every opportunity, splattering offensive pictures of hunting scenes all over front pages, farmers and friends, of course.
We know, as do many, farmers are renowned for cruel, callous neglect of livestock, and cruel to wildlife. The WMN should be ashamed to want a return to traditional hunting, as cruelty of it is beyond belief and there has never been a single justification for bloodsports!
For over a century compassionate, civilised, good people, including my husband and me fought hard for a ban. The only reason hunting wasn't banned at start of last century with all other cruel 'sports', was because it was, still is 'sport' of the over-privileged!
Do not continue pretending fox or stag hunting is a form of pest control. We're all aware they hunt purely for pleasure of the sickest kind and many have publicly stated they'd rather die than give up this outdated, obscene pastime. Humane methods of culling are and always have been used by decent farmers and land owners, such as marksman shooting deer, which are dead in 2-3 seconds, cage trapping, for clean shooting all smaller animals, whilst Renidene Fox Oil spread around fields, keeps foxes out and lambs safe. Foxes do not take lambs like they say, only dead ones in the main. These arrogant scumbags want total freedom again to go badger-baiting, pulling foxes and deer to pieces after terrifying long chases and to continue training hounds to maul to death fox cubs reared in artificial earths (why breed foxes if there's a plague of them out there?) and do every cruel thing they want to, with no interference. We won't let that happen!

It is disgusting and degrading.
I know of hunts where they let the full pack into a wood for two to three hours whilst riders just sit waiting. For what? A kill, of course, the 'proper way', the agonised scream of a poor creature who's done no wrong, just for pleasure of these excuses for humans. These, with their sheep suffering in fields with terrible foot, womb and hip problems, months on end, too. I know this, I've seen it.
Anyone who cares about animals, keep your eyes and ears open, in countryside and pubs. Report anything you see or hear.
Many letter writers are nice people, I particularly like that lovely Graham Forsyth, Mrs V Hircock, the columnist Trevor Beer, Barry Thomas, Len Short and others – all who care about what is right and good.
Three-quarters of the nation have always opposed bloodsports – the right way to be.
Thank you to all dear people who love animals and care about the planet. The natural world are the reason we can exist on Earth. Soon though, we'll be unable to, everything being destroyed. Too many people!
