First point-to-point meet is cancelled
The curtain-raiser for horse racing's point-to-point season had to be called off yesterday after a blocked drain left the course flooded.
Organisers of the event at Black Forest Lodge, Kenton, near Exeter, had been determined to go ahead come what may, but were thwarted at the last minute.
The sandy course is famed for defying wet weather. WMN equestrian editor Annabel Groom said the conditions on the three-mile course over jumps would have been fine but for the drain, which waterlogged the final bend.
The event has been postponed and will now go ahead next Sunday.
