£10k boost for Wadebridge
WADEBRIDGE has received a government grant to help improve town centre trade.
An allocation of £10,000 has been made to each of the six Cornish towns which were not successful in gaining Portas Pilot town status.
Nationally, over 400 applied for the Portas scheme, with Liskeard awarded one of only 12 initial grants of £100,000 to support the revival of its town centre.
Due to the volume of applications, the Home Office then created the Town Team Partner programme which agreed to offer £10,000 to each Town Team that had been unsuccessful.

Wadebridge Chamber of Commerce vice-chair, Sarah Prosser, who led the town's Portas bid, said her team would be meeting with MP Dan Rogerson to discuss how best to use the money.
"We are delighted to have been awarded this funding, which although is significantly less than the original Portas Pilot application, will give us the means by which to progress some of the projects we had outlined for the development of the town centre," said Mrs Prosser.
"The chamber of commerce, Cornwall Council and Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network are meeting with Dan Rogerson to formalise our plans and start allocating this funding.
"Ultimately this is about securing the future of our town centre and positioning Wadebridge as a town that is going somewhere."
The other Cornish towns to be allocated a £10,000 grant are Camelford, Helston, Launceston, Newquay and St Austell.
Guy Thomas, Cornwall Council's town centre management specialist, said: "The high number of towns across the country which originally applied for Portas Pilot funding demonstrates the scale of threats facing our town centres."
The Home Office has recently announced a further round of funding through the Our Towns First, High Street X-Fund when towns will bid for a share of a £1 million grant.
