£1m facility in Cornwall will cater to tourism industry demand
A £1 million training centre has opened in Cornwall, aimed at creating an industry-ready workforce to boost the tourism and hospitality sector.
The purpose-built Cornwall School of Tourism and Hospitality is located at the St Mellion International Resort.
Its foundation cements a partnership between Cornwall College, St Mellion and the South East Cornwall Learning Partnership, which is made up of the college and five local secondary schools.
The facility was funded through a £3.5 million award by the Department of Education to the partnership, which is also using the cash to invest in further tourism-focused facilities and schemes.

Visit Cornwall head, Malcolm Bell, said: "This is a real first for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and an incredibly exciting initiative.
"It will help create the tourism leaders of the future."
Students will be able to enrol on courses at the centre from the age of 14, via school-based vocational pathways.
They will also undertake work experience within local tourism businesses.
The Eden Project's Sir Tim Smit said: "With the support of the industry, the school could soon become not only Britain's number one, but outstrip places like Switzerland and fast become Europe's top place to learn about tourism and hospitality."
