£2m cycleway set to link wood with estate
A £2 MILLION cycleway is expected to be created linking Cardinham Woods and the Lanhydrock Estate.
A partnership which includes the National Trust and the Forestry Commission has plans for a new family off-road cycling development spread across Cardinham Woods and the northern wooded area of the estate and will be holding a public consultation event this evening and tomorrow morning in the Shire House Suite, Bodmin.

The consultation will share an initial plan that has been developed with the partners and the planning authorities.

Called the Bodmin Cycle Hub, it will be the seventh cycle route initiative set up in the region by the partnership, called 1 South West.
The purpose of this development is to help people to enjoy adventurous off-road cycling and progress their riding with confidence.
The National Trust's Jim Pascoe, the cycle hub development manager, explained: "We are now at a stage where the initial scoping work has been done, so we can sensibly talk to local people and site users about what the options are – and are not – in order to understand opinions and gather ideas. This consultation is a key part of this process, as it is essential that we understand, and are guided by people's views as we develop the detail."
Mr Pascoe said: "The project represents significant investment in the local area both encouraging visitors to spend longer in the area but also providing an amazing facility for local residents – the Bodmin hub is the furthest west of the six 1 South West hub sites.
"At this point, the National Trust and the Forestry Commission are specifically asking for public feedback on the designs for the cycle trails at Lanhydrock and Cardinham and views on what user and visitor facilities should be provided as part of the hub at Lanhydrock. We will also be sharing our reasons for our preferred hub option location."
Shona Owen, from the National Trust, said the cycle scheme had already caught the imagination of many people.
"We trailed the idea at our stand at the Royal Cornwall Show, and the reaction of people was very positive indeed.
"The main idea of the consultations is for us to find out exactly what local people would like to see happen and to get their ideas for the project."
Tomorrow's event will be open from 6.30pm until 9pm, with a presentation taking place at 7pm. The following day there will be a drop-in event at the same location from 9am until 1pm.
