Chancellor George Osborne has announced the Government will fund a long-awaited upgrade of a stretch of the A30 through Cornwall to relieve a notorious bottleneck.

Cash for the £30 million scheme to make a single lane between Temple and Higher Carblake near Bodmin into a dual carriageway was hailed last night by MPs and council leaders.
Major improvements to the 2.8 mile section, first mooted 25 years ago under the previous Conservative government, formed part of the Chancellor's autumn financial statement.

Cornwall Council said the new-look road could presage a £117 million economic boost, plus £154m in transport benefits. Dan Rogerson, Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall, who has long lobbied for the Bodmin Moor road to be dualled, said: "This fantastic news will make the road safer, will be good for business and good for local communities, particularly during this tough economic period. Under the previous two governments this scheme languished undelivered."
George Eustice, Conservative MP for Camborne and Redruth, said the move would lead to "reduced journey times – which is good for businesses and the tourism industry alike". He added: "Despite the difficult economic climate, this Government is investing in the vital infrastructure that is necessary to secure future growth."
Jim Currie, leader of Tory-led Cornwall Council, said: "This scheme will play a vital role in the future prosperity of Cornwall by encouraging economic growth, aiding regeneration and business expansion and supporting tourism."

“So come on then Cornwall Council /Highways or whoever get your Ar**s in gear and get this road built, the plans must be in your back pockets now! so no need for a consultation period or whatever youve been siting on this for 25 years no excuses lets get Cornwall on its feet sending our produce far and wide instead of stuck at Temple rotting away or wasting time and money stuck in the jams, oh and yes please sort out the bloody tractors that seem to find the need to haul their produce around cornwall on red diesel!”
