£68,000 water bill sent to pensioner in error
An ill pensioner was hit with a water bill of more than £68,000 while he was in hospital.
The astonishing charge, which said had to be paid within two weeks, landed on Kenneth Dawe's doormat but was intercepted by his brother Barry, pictured right.
Barry, 70, said: "I'm worried about telling him about it – I'm scared it'll finish him off." South West Water have since apologised to the brothers and said Mr Dawe will not be expected to pay the bill.
The misunderstanding has been blamed on a leak.

Barry said: "Everything is going up these days – but not by that much.
"It says he has to pay £68,844.71 due within the next 14 days.
"His water charge for the last month alone is £1,253. How can you send this out?"
Kenneth, 71, is in Derriford hospital suffering from a range of health problems.
He left Barry in charge at home while he gets better.
A spokesman for South West Water confirmed that the bill was sent in error and apologised.
