I predict The Riot
ESPECIALLY commissioned for the Darke Visions Festival, Hookline Theatre Company is touring the county in late February with Nick Darke's The Riot.
The play screams Cornishness, and anyone who breathes Cornish air, and who cares about Cornwall's past, present and future, needs to see this riotous production.
-

The Riot is a play about the Sabbath Riots in Newlyn in 1896 when the fishermen demonstrated violently against the Sunday fishing fleet from Lowestoft.
Nick Darke, during an interview, conducted to launch the original production, commented: "I've always wanted to write about the riots, but what interested me was not so much what actually happened – history has never been my strong point – but the idea of responsibility. So I wrote about a fat cat businessman who has too much power in a small Cornish fishing community… The community are very poor, but who should they blame for their suffering? Where does the buck stop?"
Hookline Theatre Company, realising the vision of the festival, formed to celebrate the work of the late Cornish playwright.
The company brings together professionals from across the county, from St Buryan in the south west, Callington in the north and all in-between.
Hookline wants to ensure that everyone has the chance to enjoy Nick's work and therefore the tour attempts to cover the length and breadth of Cornwall and ticket prices are kept as low as absolutely possible.
Involving a collaboration with Tintagel Orpheus Male Voice Choir, the performance is a piece of total theatre that guarantees to rock the boat, and catch you Hookline and sinker.
