A WELL-known landmark was given a makeover as residents came over all green-fingered.

Residents of Talskiddy, near St Columb, turned out in force on Thursday as the community pulled together to clean up green spaces around the village and the site of the old duck pond – affectionately known as Talskiddy Harbour.

Rubbish was cleared away, grass was strimmed and brambles cut down as the village was given a thorough makeover.

Joining the residents were a team from contractors SERCO and former mayor of Restormel, Cllr Pat Harvey. "It was a brilliant morning and the residents were absolutely fantastic in helping to tidy up the area," said Cllr Harvey.

"I have to say a big thank you to SERCO who were brilliant and to local residents. It just goes to show what can happen when everyone pulls together. This was a real demonstration of community spirit."

The tidy-up came about after Cllr Harvey was contacted by Talskiddy residents.

After calls were made to Restormel council chiefs and SERCO, the operation was given the green light. And now plans are being put in place for further works in Talskiddy, as Cllr Harvey explained.

She said: "We are hoping to secure funding so we can tidy up the pond, which everyone used to refer to as Talskiddy Harbour. It would be great if we can get that sorted out and return it to its former glory."

Talskiddy resident Joy Payne was praised by Cllr Harvey, for helping to organise the day of action.
