HUNDREDS of cheering people greeted the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall as they arrived in the Westcountry for a day visit yesterday.

The royal couple travelled to Lostwithiel where they saw plans to redevelop the Old Duchy Palace before meeting the congregation of St Bartholomew's Church.

Charles and Camilla also sampled local produce, with the Duchess tasting and buying a Cornish pasty and doughnuts for lunch.

The Prince also stopped to talk to 102-year-old Mary Fox, who told him she was "so honoured".

The Duchess, who is patron of the Cornwall Community Foundation, then travelled to Bodmin to open the Berryfields Community Centre.

The purpose-built community and children's centre was completed in September 2008.

In May this year, the old building was demolished to be redeveloped as a play and outdoor exercise centre providing activities for local residents.
