Two people made it to safety after the 4x4 they were travelling in came off the road and ended up in a fast-flowing river in Devon yesterday afternoon. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene at Chittlehamholt, Umberleigh, at just before 12.30pm, one of the occupants had already waded to dry land. Crews then used a boat to bring the other person from the vehicle to safety. Fire teams from Chulmleigh, South Molton and the specialist rescue team from Barnstaple carried out the rescue.
