Two seriously hurt as crash closes A30 near Bodmin
A man and a woman suffered serious injuries in a smash in misty conditions on a busy main road in Cornwall.
The woman's injuries were thought to be "life-changing" while the man was said to have suffered bad neck and head injuries, in the incident on the A30 near Bodmin.
The full extent of their injuries was not known last night. Both of them were taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Emergency services had to cut them out of the wreckage of their cars.
Hundreds of motorists were caught in long tailbacks after emergency services closed the A30 in both directions between Colliford Tavern in Temple and Preeze Cross in Four Winds, following the incident yesterday evening.
Diversions were initially put in place but drivers faced chaos amid long delays before the road started to clear.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene after witnesses called the services shortly after 5.28pm.
Conditions on the road were said to be difficult due to the mist and poor visibility at the scene but it was not known last night if the weather played a part in the smash.
