Fire service may share resources with Yorkshire
Fire services in Cornwall and North Yorkshire could share control rooms in some circumstances.
A report going before North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority said a joint venture between the long distance counties would increase resilience, effectiveness and efficiency of the control function in each authority.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) already has a similar arrangement with Dorset, which took calls during the extreme flooding in November, when Cornwall's control room took more than 520 calls in two days.
CFRS said under the proposal, which would need to be approved by Cornwall Council's communities overview and scrutiny committee, North Yorkshire's 999 control room operators would take emergency calls for Cornwall during the very rare occasions where the local control room was inundated with calls relating to multiple major emergencies.

A spokesman said: "This proposal would not see North Yorkshire replace Cornwall's control room. The arrangement would only be invoked in extreme circumstances. North Yorkshire has been identified as a suitable partner for this arrangement."
