Rihanna explains new tattoo

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 18:21

Rihanna has spoken out about her new tattoo, revealing it represents "strength and love".

The Disturbia songstress showed off a new Maori-influenced ink on her right wrist at UNICEF's annual Snowflake Lighting ceremony at the Grand Army Plaza in New York.

"It's tribal. It represents strength and love," she told reporters.

Rihanna revealed that she was inspired while in New Zealand for a tour date.

"It's their traditional way of tattooing," she said of the geometric print design. "I always wanted [one]. It hurt like hell!"

The latest tattoo is at least the Grammy Award-winner's seventh - she already has a music note on her ankle, a Pisces sign behind her right ear, a star inside her left ear, Roman numerals on her left shoulder, a Sanskrit prayer on her hip, and a cluster of stars on her neck.
