Ferris set to enjoy his day off with Pirates
Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 11:09
Tim, a former RAC rally champion driver, whose team was called the Cornish Fasties, is the managing director of Ferris Garage Limited.
A lifelong rugby supporter and keen follower of the Pirates, Tim recently met up with Cornish Pirates directors Rod Coward and Robin Turner, and has chosen to travel with the side when they play Plymouth Albion in November.
The winner of the first draw, Derek Penhaligon, will be travelling up north to Otley in September.
The third and final director's draw is scheduled for today with the winner to be announced next week.
● Interest for the Pirates' two pre-season friendly fixtures has been considerable. The first game will be played at Camborne against Redruth on Saturday August 16, and the second against Italian Super 10 side Almaviva Capitolina on Saturday August 23. Both matches will kick-off at 5pm.
Tickets for the games can be purchased from the ticket office, 01736 331961, or at www.cornish-pirates.com, with other ticket outlets likely to be confirmed shortly.
● Penzance & Newlyn RFC's annual meeting, which is open to fully paid up members only, will take place at Westholme, Alexandra Road, Penzance, tonight, Thursday, at 7.30pm.
● The Pirates' meet the players night at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, takes place tomorrow, Friday August 1, when season ticket holders are invited to collect their tickets on the night.
Those present will also be able to watch the players and coaches involved in a training session from 7.15-7.55pm, at the end of which new squad members will be welcomed.
● Saturday sees the return of the successful Falmouth Pub7s at the Recreation Ground.
This is the third year of the event being hosted at Falmouth and is again sponsored by St Austell Brewery. As with previous years the event is a charity day with the proceeds this year going to the Children's Hospice Southwest Precious Lives Appeal.
This year sees the return of last year's cup winners The Corn Exchange from Camborne in a bid to defend their title as well as the inaugural winner's of Zafiros Bar in Truro. Also defending the Plate title will be the Galleon Inn from Fowey. With several new local teams entering from Flushing and Falmouth as well as teams travelling from St Agnes and as far a field as Cullompton, this year event looks likely to be a closer run day than last year. The first game is planned to kick off at 11am there will be a barbecue and refreshments.
● The Cornwall Rugby Sages Society hold their monthly meeting next Thursday, August 7 at St Ives RFC.
All are welcome for a social afternoon of rugby chat and songs from 2pm-5pm.
