David and Elizabeth Elliot carded a superb 33 points in high winds in the first of the Winter Mixed Greensomes Stableford events at St Enodoc on Sunday. In second place were Peter Mattinson and Penny Cartwright with 29 points, who pipped Keith and Barbara Willmott on countback, with Norman Hawkey and Celia Jones fourth on 278. The winners are pictured with club captain Geoff Jones (centre).
It was the fourth time the 29-year-old has reached this stage, but he has still to make it through to the final six rounds of qualifying, which this year are being held at PGA Golf de Catalunya at Girona next week after which the top 30 players and ties will be awarded their Tour card for 2010.
Frayne got off to a superb start at Costa Ballena with an opening four under par 68 to lie in a share of eighth place in the 76-strong field after the first round last Friday.
But a second round 73 dropped him down the field into a tie for 34th place and he slipped further down the field into joint 54th place after a third round 75.
Though he rallied well in Monday's final round with a two under par 70, it was not enough to lift him into the top 19 qualifiers. He finished with a two under total of 286 in a share of 40th place.
Before he left for Spain Frayne had spent the previous two weeks in the USA preparing for the Qualifying School, staying at his parents' house in Florida.
He played several rounds on local courses, including one with Justin Rose at Lake Mona.
