SEVEN HEAVEN FOR NEWQUAY:
Reading Town Ladies FC 1, Newquay Ladies FC 7
Newquay travelled to Reading with several players missing due to work and holidays, but the strength of the squad showed through again with a fine win.
Again Newquay showed their quality on occasions with some nice football, building from the back they controlled the match and created chances, seven of which were taken.
There were goals for Hayley Stroud, Lucy Old and Rose Knuckey and four from the talented finisher Vicky Barter.
This was a win again rewarded for the team effort, work rate and the football they are playing. Reading, to their credit, always tried to play the game in the right manner and never let their heads go down .
Newquay manager Christian Lett said he was delighted with the attitude and application from the girls, and said they thoroughly deserved the win.

COLTS FAIL TO WEATHER THE STORM:
Newquay 20, Penzance 34:
The Newquay Colts came up against some fierce opposition at the Sport's Centre on Saturday in the form of the weather. In torrential rain and stinging hail the Hornets and Pirates slogged out the entire game in rapidly deteriorating visibility and light on a pitch fast becoming a sticky bog.
Newquay made a promising start with Liam Freeman replicating Johnny Wilkinson's drop kick in the opening minutes and Dexter Cater following this with a great try that Liam converted.
With the rain making the ball increasingly more difficult to handle and the mud making the going very heavy, the usually fast and nimble Hornets found it difficult to keep possession.
In stark contrast, the conditions favoured the portly Penzance team, well padded out with lots of forwards, who were able to dig in and push three unconverted tries over before half-time, bringing the score to 15-10 to the Pirates.
In spite of captain Liam scoring and converting again in the second half and finishing off with a penalty, Newquay were unable to run the ball and utilise their speed and agility against the slower, heavier Penzance lads, who continued to bludgeon their way across the Hornets' try line, leaving ploughed furrows in their wake. Having the wind blowing their way helped to convert the tries, leaving Newquay continuing to emulate England, from a promising beginning to a soggy end.
Drenched to the bone and with thunder rumbling overhead, the players and spectators were only too pleased to hear the final whistle, though ironically it also heralded the end of the storm.

NEWQUAY HORNETS:
After a week's break between games, the Hornets took on St Agnes at the sports centre on Sunday morning.
The under 7s got proceedings under way with a hard fought victory over their Aggy rivals to run out 5-4 winners in blustery conditions, with the odd shower too.
Even in such cold conditions, it was great to see so many youngsters enjoying themselves and playing as a team. Nick Davies (U7s coach) must be thrilled with the start to season so far.
Try scorers for the U7s were Ben Wilkins, Finlay Jones, Toby Blount, Joe Roberts and Bradley Davies. This takes young Ben Wilkins' total to 15 tries in four appearances.
Again, the U8s had enough players to field two sides. In the first game, Aggy really started strongly and took the lead. However, Newquay hit back quickly and equalised. It was an end to end encounter that thrilled the good sized crowd and all the players acquitted themselves magnificently throughout.
The final score was a fair reflection of the game and ended in a 5-5 draw. The try scorers for Newquay were Owen Pryor, Finn Collins, Arthur Bygrave all getting one each and Ben Hunt bagged himself two tries. Everyone played extremely well but the personal performance from Ben Hunt really stood out, his support play and defence was very good throughout. The improvement in the support play from these young Hornets is incredible and their defensive tagging seems to really demoralise opponents.
In the second game, Hornets ran out 5-1 winners. Admittedly some of the Aggy boys had to play twice because they had less numbers than Newquay, but Hornets were deserved winners. The support play, as in the first game was outstanding and they defended like their lives depended on it. Several players stood out but Eddie Pearce looked like a little terrier, tagging anything in range and scooping two tries. Other try scorers were Lewis Hollings, Ewan Gilroy-Simpson and Ethan Morgan.
It is great to think that if these youngsters all stay together and move up through the age groups, the future of Newquay Hornets is a bright one.

St Austell 34, Newquay Hornets 29:
Bright sun and a strong wind greeted Newquay Hornets on a visit to St Austell.
Both teams ran out strong and were evenly matched, however the St Austell boys took advantage of any breaks and ran over three tries and with one conversion, the first half finished 17-0.
The change of ends saw an invigorated Newquay side play with added determination and their first try came from Adam Fenton receiving the ball close to the line, following a great pick up and run from Brad Lye.
Jake Wheal ran over for Newquay's second and Ben Taylor kicked over.
St Austell boys scored another try and there was some lively play with Adam Fenton getting his second try. Jordan Butts scored and Ben Taylor converted to take Newquay into the lead for a short spell.
St Austell played with true grit and pulled back with two further tries and a conversion. Mikey Hargreaves scored a belting try following a half pitch sprint but unfortunately time was against them and the match finished 34-29 to St Austell.
Man of the match: Andre Saunders.
Newquay: Kurtis Baines, Jack Bayliss, Sam Briggs, Jordan Butts, Adam Fenton, Mike Hargreaves, Brad Lye, Alex Macintyre, Marley Martin, Cameron McDermid, Matt Reddaway, Jack Rickard, Andre Sanders, Ashley Taylor, Ben Taylor, Jacob Wheal, Andre White.

IMPROVED HORNETS SUFFER DEFEAT:
St Austell U14s 24, Newquay Hornets U14s 12
Newquay put in a better performance than in recent weeks but still need to switch on earlier and improve their rucking and ball retention skills.
Both sides were well matched and St Austell took advantage of playing downhill and with the wind they scored three first half tries and led 17-0 at half-time.
Newquay's play was much more positive in the second half as Jack Burbidge sneaked in under the posts and Sam Furse scored from another good move but far too much possession was spilled out wide which could have changed the game. Two of St Austell's tries came from runs started deep within their own 22. Newquay must improve their tackling if they are to turn their season around.
Training is on Wednesdays at The Sports Centre from 6pm.

NEW SIGNINGS IMPRESS IN HOME DEFEAT:
Newquay 0, St Agnes 25
Newquay hosted St Agnes on a blustery wet Sunday. Hornets welcomed new players PJ Fletcher and Tom Edwards to the squad, which up until now had been struggling for numbers. Both new players had a good first game.
St Agnes came to Newquay much improved from last season and immediately put Hornets under pressure with slick passing across the field of play.
Valiant efforts from a well disciplined Connor Simmonds couldn't prevent an early St Agnes try. Later a certain try was prevented by a hard tackle from Hornets' Matt Greendale. Several forward runs from Joe Gutteridge were thwarted by a good St Agnes defence.
The visitors went on to score a further two tries, leaving the half time score 15-0.
In the second half, St Agnes went on to score two more tries, despite determined resistance in the mauls from Matt Greendale, Joe Gutteridge and Ben Trembath who all battled relentlessly to prevent a greater defeat.
Newquay were left disappointed at their defeat and now look forward to hosting Penryn, where they will hopefully learn from their mistakes and improve.
Team: Kieran Beal, Harry Dakin-Brown, Tom Edwards, Austin Ellis, PJ Fletcher, Jordan Geeson, Matt Greendale, Joe Gutteridge, Charlie Hutton, Hayden Orchard, Kyle Plummer, Connor Simmonds, Will Simmonds, Ben Trembath
Man of the Match: Charlie Hutton
If you are interested in playing for the under 12s come along to training on Fridays 6-7.30pm and Sundays 10-12 at Newquay Sports Centre.

HONOURS EVEN:
Newquay Hornets 35, St Agnes 35
On a wet winter's Sunday morning, both teams battled the elements to display an exciting game of rugby. It really was a game of two halves with each side taking advantage of the strong wind when in their favour.
The first half saw Newquay dominate and score a succession of four tries to St Agnes' one. Good support play by Josh Mares and Daniel Dobbs enabled scores by Ti Jones, Aaron Simmonds and Tom Pryor (2) for the onlooking crowd.
The second half saw the Hornets start as they finished the first half, with Aaron Simmonds scoring his second of the game. St Agnes then started a mighty comeback which saw them score in total another six tries.
Newquay answered this with two more tries by Aaron Simmonds and Tom Pryor keeping the result to a fair draw for both sides. Coaches player of the match award went to Aaron Simmonds.

MIXED FORTUNES FOR NEWQUAY:
Newquay U12s United came away with a convincing 7-2 victory away to Camelford.
The other U12s (ECL) team did not fare so well, going down 5-1 to a very good Charlestown team.
The only game played on Sunday was a very evenly contested game between Newquay U15s (Kernow) and Helston. Newquay played with the wind during the first half and created numerous chances.
Chris Sturgess broke the deadlock when, from a poorly taken corner, the ball came straight back to him when he struck a sweet curling shot past the Helston goalkeeper.
Poor defending allowed Helston to quickly equalise. Despite Newquay playing against the wind they were the team who looked more likely to score against the run of play, though it was Helston who scored next. Newquay continued to battle but the elusive equaliser did not come.

Newquay Youth AFC 2, Chacewater 6:
The game was played in difficult conditions and Newquay were trailing 2-1 at half-time with defender Cameron Burt scoring for Newquay.
The second half saw Chacewater adding a further four goals with Newquay scoring once courtesy of an own goal. Man of the match was Callum Weston, who gave 100%. Overall, it was a disappointing result but the Newquay boys never gave up and battled well.

NEWQUAY GUARDIAN LEAGUE:
The Premiership
Dream Sessions 1, Keep it Local 3:
Tom Currah is still not fully fit but his presence was certainly felt as he drove relentlessly at the Dream Sessions' defence. His two goals made sure that Keep it Local won the match. Dave Panter was also on target for Keep it Local.
The Tigers 1, Stuarts 2:
The Tigers started well but they couldn't legislate for a wonderful piece of skill from Sean Lambert that gave Stuarts the lead.
The Tigers created several chances but couldn't finish them and as time ran out they were caught on the break by Lambert who added a second.
Neil Gapper pulled one back for the Tigers.
Cosmos 0, Golly Ronaldo 1:
Jordan Fordes found himself through on goal and finished perfectly to give his side the lead and ultimately the points.
The win moves Golly Ronaldo closer to Cosmos and throws them back into the mix for the title.
NG 2, Mitie Men 1:
Both teams started with attacking intent, but it was NG who took the lead thanks to a fine piece of control and a neat finish from Tim Johnson.
Neil Gapper quickly added a second to leave NG coasting. Mitie Men kept attacking though and they pulled one back through Adam Cooper early in the second half.
Pentire Rats 5, Hemmingsway 1:
The Rats have found a style of play that teams are finding difficult to cope with and the bad news for other Championship sides is that they seem to be getting better with each match they play.
The Rats were in top form against Hemmingsway scoring five through the deadly Ling.
The win moves the Rats up to fourth and sets things up very nicely for next week's clash against NG Electrical.
Hurricanes 1, AC Cullens 0:
The Hurricanes have rediscovered the winning formula that saw them win the Premiership two seasons ago.
Neil Ivamy made the most of dreadful Cullens' mistake to give the Hurricanes the lead and after that they went into defensive mode making sure that they registered yet another clean sheet.
The Hurricanes have only conceded twice this season and on this form they don't look likely to concede many more.
The Misfits 5, Blue Fusion 1:
The Misfits showed no sign of missing Mike Bale as they sauntered to victory against a Blue Fusion side that seem to have lost their way recently.
Ben Hawkins, Matt Cavanah (2) and Dave Leavers (2) were all on target in a win that keeps the Misfits comfortably in second place and they strive for promotion at their third time of asking.
Newquay Hornets' Jordan Butts jumps for the ball during the under 15s' defeat to St Austell at the weekend.
