The stage is set for the biggest pasty fest yet
THE STAGE is set for the country’s biggest pasty festival ever – the celebrity chefs and entertainment is booked, the itinerary is set and the pasty challenge has been laid down.
The headline Los Pacaminos concert is on track to sell out following a rush on ticket sales.
The band’s famous front man Paul Young will be helping Portreath Bakery owner Marion Symonds – one of the festival organisers – in a star-studded cooking demonstration of a Mexican pasty.
Visitors to the festival on September 6-8 in Redruth will also be serenaded by official visitors from Redruth’s twin town of Real Del Monte in Hidalgo State, Mexico, on Saturday.

The event has even had a blessing from New Zealand after a Redruth-born pasty producer sent a letter wishing the town a “wonderful day.”
Redruth town manager Lee Dunkley said he was “delighted” to receive support from the Cornish diaspora from the other side of the world.
He added: “This year’s Pasty Festival could well be one of the single biggest events in the area all year.
“We’re expecting thousands of people to tuck in to the full range of pasties and other high quality Cornish food and drink products, including ice cream, mead, shellfish, cakes and so much more.
“Big names, such as James Strawbridge and Eunice Woolcock are adding to the excitement as we anticipate the best Pasty Festival yet.”
The community has been set a challenge at the Make Your Own pasty workshop – to bake more than the 450 pasties, last year’s record.
It is not too late to get involved in the festival, as organisers are looking for volunteers and marshals. For information, call 01209 210038.
