WITH Saturday’s trip to Carlsberg SW Peninsula League leaders Buckland awaiting them, Liskeard could be sucked back into the premier division relegation battle after Wednesday’s defeat at Lux Park against a Torpoint side missing several of their first team regulars, writes Mike Sampson.

Liskeard manager Leigh Cooper was honest enough to admit: “Torpoint were comfortable winners as we created little up front.”

Torpoint manager Stuart Dudley was grateful to his strong second team squad that enabled him to draft in five of them but it was two of his regulars who combined to give them a 25th minute lead.

Chris Todd made room down the right flank before firing the ball across to the far post where it was met with a firm header from Josh Grant that flew into the top corner of Dan Pen-Collins’ goal.

Pen-Collins had made several fine saves to restrict the visitors to just the one goal before Matt Godfree’s uncharacteristic error in the 80th minute let in Liam Thornton to round Pen-Collins and slot home from a narrow angle.
