Call for transparency over cuts to frontline services
A MEBYON KERNOW councillor from Callington is calling for greater transparency over planned cuts to frontline services.
Cornwall councillor Andrew Long urged council leaders to reveal the true extent of the cuts ahead of the council's environment and economy overview and scrutiny meeting on Wednesday.
Mr Long said: "The time has come for the public to understand what cuts are already planned to meet the required £30 million savings this financial year.
"The chronic underfunding from the Conservative and Liberal Democrat-controlled Government in Westminster, combined with the attack by the current Conservative Independent regime at Truro, will mean savage cuts in frontline services."

He continued: "This includes a more than 50 per cent cut in parks and open spaces, almost half in the public conveniences' department, and up to 70 per cent in the country parks management for Tehidy and Kit Hill. This will have a massive effect on the public across Cornwall."
Mr Long said the proposed cuts are also likely to affect the county's tourism industry.
"We are also seeing a big cut in the budget for beach management which could, if this is not halted, affect our Blue Flag beaches. This would have a devastating effect on the tourist industry, which helps to keep the blood flowing through our economy. We have now gone well past cutting the fat, and are cutting the very muscle that keeps the body of Cornwall going," he added.
