US trio's ragtime fusion
The Plough, Torrington, tonight; Performance Centre, Falmouth University, Monday
American roots sensations The Wiyos are bringing their infectious ragtime-inspired racket to the Westcountry for a welcome return visit. Discovered busking on the streets of Brooklyn, this unique trio – Michael Farkas, Teddy Weber and Sauerkraut Seth Travins – have played to huge crowds at baseball parks across the USA and also opened for Bob Dylan, by personal invitation.
Their blend of early swing jazz, rural folk, old-time blues and Appalachian music is guaranteed to cause a stir.
The chaps have been rolling together for more than a decade and were one of the first 'old-time' acoustic bands to emerge on the US scene. They have toured relentlessly on both sides of the Atlantic and released several critically acclaimed albums and EPs. They were also featured in the BBC documentaries Folk America – Hollerers, Stompers and Old-Time Ramblers and No Sleep 'Til Yell.
