Mark Leahy cuts a stylish dash on the bowling green.
PROMOTED by CAZ (Cornwall Autonomous Zone), "art child" of Rebecca Weeks and Ian Whitford, tomorrow sees the launch of Mark Leahy's booklet Lengths & Ends in Penlee Bowling Club.
An unusual venue for an unusual event: writer, performance artist, project manager and lecturer Mark Leahy enjoyed a CAZ Weekender residence in July when he spent time swimming in the Jubilee Pool and learning something of how to play bowls at Penlee Bowling Club, and Lengths & Ends has been written and illustrated in response to those activities.

It was a weekend when a Splash/Dash Aquathlon was held at the Jubilee Pool and competitions were held at Penlee Bowling Club, and the Six Poems For Penzance that make up his booklet were inspired by those events, while the images that adorn the booklet are based on heraldic shields or plaques, with elements that refer to both sites.
Quick to thank all those who helped make his CAZ Weekender residency such a pleasurable visit, he points out that the actual dimensions of his booklet are based on a bowling score card.
He also hopes that members of both the Penlee Bowling Club and Friends of the Jubilee Pool will enjoy it and even have fun with its images that are visual puzzles to be deciphered.
Surely one of the best free events around – entry, booklet and refreshments are all free – the launch of Lengths & Ends between 6pm and 8pm is a must for all poetry, bowling and swimming fans.
