Beach clean fills 50 bags of rubbish

The 59 students from University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter spent an afternoon at Little Falmouth Beach on the Trefusis Estate, intent on clearing the foreshore of all rubbish.
The beach clean had been organised by the combined students' union, FXU's community action team and the Falmouth branch of Friends of the Earth (FalFoE).
The beach has been taken on by FalFoE as part of the Marine Conservation Society's adopt a beach scheme.
The students arrived at the beach by ferry from Falmouth and soon had big bags full of debris.
As well as the bigger items, the rubbish collected also included glass and plastic bottles, tin cans, food wrappers, cigarette butts, cotton buds and fishing line - all of which had either been dumped at the beach or washed up by the tide.
"The big beach clean is just one of many volunteering events that the students are keen to be involved in," said FXU Community Action coordinator, Jill Dunn.
"FXU Community Action volunteering is growing at a remarkable rate due to students' enthusiasm and the community's engagement with them."
Leaving the beach clear of rubbish, the students made their way to Miss Peapod's Cafe in Penryn for welcome refreshments, provided free of charge by the owners as a thank-you for all their hard work.
