Residents 'up in arms' at bid to construct 36 new homes

More than 100 people have so far signed a petition objecting to the proposal to build 36 houses and bungalows at Pengegon Villa.
Developer Dave Sames, of Kerthenwood Homes, has defended the outline application as providing housing for local people.
One of the objectors, Kay Murphy, who has lived at Pengegon all her life, said: “This is the last green area here. Residents are up in arms because the area has already been over developed but the infrastructure has not been upgraded to accommodate extra traffic flow.”
Mr Sames said the company had kept local residents informed and held a public consultation evening.
“Throughout the two years in which the proposals have been under development, thorough and careful consideration has been given to all the variables relative to the development of the site.”
Mrs Murphy said residents would be making their views known to Camborne Town and Kerrier District councils. “The parking issues at Higher Pengegon cause tremendous problems. Over the years this area has had numerous flooding issues and it is felt this risk still remains.”
Mr Sames said over development concerns had been resolved by ensuring the site does not overlook any existing properties, by offering more than adequate amenity areas and 1.5 parking spaces per property.
Extensive flood risk and mining assessments had been carried out and providing a mix of properties would reflect the semi-rural character of the area. Mrs Murphy said when planners considered new developments, they were duty bound to take account of the residents already living there.
“Councils need to look at more brownfield sites and retain the last few remaining green areas. We have to build communities where people are proud to reside. We have to provide playing fields, gardens and amenities.”
Mr Sames said: “The plans are sympathetic and support the need to house local people.”
