Colin is the sun king

Tuesday, October 13, 2009, 11:09

THE Boy Who Trapped the Sun (aka Colin MacLeod) was last seen in Cornwall when he toured the region with Rob Sawyer back in August and went on to wow the audience at the Relentless Beach Sessions in Newquay.

It will be good news to many to find out that he will be back in the South West this week with a handful of tour dates in some beautifully intimate venues.

The Boy Who Trapped The Sun is a wry, alt-folk singer-songwriter from the Isle of Lewis. The pseudo-offspring of Cash and Drake, if he could he'd groom himself a Dylan 'fro. Signed to Geffen, he writes folk music from the heart and for the moment with choruses that truly deliver. Lyrically he manages to be both wistful and witty at the same time.

TBWTTS has written with the likes of Ed Harcourt and Grammy-nominated Sacha Skarbek, and is inspired by the likes of Belle and Sebastian and The Lemonheads.

His music has been called 'a spectacular blend of acoustic folk pop dripping with blissful melodies and summer vibes'.

He has played everywhere from South by South West in 2005, extensively toured the UK and recently supported Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band at Hyde Park.

He is back in the South West playing tracks from his recently completed debut album. On the album he played everything himself, hoarding all of the credits – except for the strings and female vocals, that is, but not for want of trying. Before releasing it into the wild he is paving the way with the Watermark EP, released this week.

The Boy has the following engagements to sing his songs within Cornwall – you'd be foolish to miss witnessing this incredible talent in such intimate surroundings.

Thursday: The Tap House, St Agnes

Friday: Wig & Pen, Truro

Saturday: The Zero Lounge, Penzance

Sunday: Gylly Beach Café, Falmouth

All shows are free entry, support for each show to be confirmed. Please contact the venues directly for further information.
