Leopallooza is back

09:10 - 24-July-2008

WHO would put on a festival in this day and age? What with flagging ticket sales at Glastonbury, an unimaginable amount of stages at T in the Park which involves a day's walk, V Festival having that bloody tree in the middle of the main stage field year after year...

Leopallooza never really intended to be a festival as such, just a party... with loads of bands... and onsite camping... and an, okay it's a festival, but one like no other! It's DIY and it's a monster!

Back in 2006 Bude-based band The Fires threw a party in Leo's field. They invited their friends without a Myspace or Facebook account. No sending bulletins, spamming or poking anyone in the process!

It was a hit, with immediate requests from bands to play the following year. All those in attendance needed no invitation to return.

On to 2007, the year of the mud and rain! That year the friends of 2006 invited their friends and suddenly the field held thrice as many music fans as the year before.

Bands travelled from across the South of England, the rain chucked it down, people didn't seem to care, such was the growing reputation of this almost guerrilla festival.

This year sees the third annual Leopallooza event. With the blessing of the relevant authorities, with 'i's dotted and hoops jumped through, the now fully-licensed and legit Leopallooza show is set to happen again, on Saturday, August 2.

Hidden away in a stunning location in the North Cornish countryside, not too far from Bude but far enough away to be called “the Middle Of Nowhere”, 18 bands will grace the two stages with gates opening at 12.30pm and the arena field closing at 1.30am.

The buzz and rumours about the festival in the North Cornwall area caused last year's 500 ticket limit to sell out in advance.

The team at Leopallooza HQ have upped the capacity this year allowing 1,000 ticket-holders the chance to sample the most down-to-earth, friendly and downright entertaining festival this side of the equator.

It has its own licensed bar (The Flying Squirrel) and food outlet (The Hungry Badger) and an accompanying acoustic stage.

There are camping, facilities and, of course, the defining symbol of each Leopallooza, its very own set centrepiece – the burning car.

Highlights this year include The Martin Harley Band, Glass Shark, Floors & Walls, Supenik, Astro Firs, Luke Leighfield and band, The Sum Of, My First Tooth, Tim and Sam's Tim and Sam Band with Tim and Sam, Klaus Says Buy The Record, Katie Malco, Steph Newton, Thomas Ford, Men of Splendor, R W Hedges and more to be confirmed.
