One year since memory café was started
COLLEAGUES from the Medical Unit at West Cornwall Hospital were joined by Hospital Friends and supporters last week to celebrate a year since the opening of the innovative Memory Café.
Each Thursday afternoon patients can step back in time playing board games they might remember from their childhood, watch old films and news reports, enjoy singsongs, or tuck into traditional home-made cake and tea served in china cups.
Medical Ward 2 sister, Michelle Wildman said: "You can feel the ambience coming from the room when the Memory Café is in full swing. The patients get such enjoyment out of it and it really does stimulate speech and activity."
Jo Pope, Jo Wallis and Lisa Williams have been the driving force behind the café and work with a team of volunteers. The Memory Café recently acquired its own Memory Pod.
